Allergy Rash

Allergy rash is quite common to people who have allergies. When the skin gets irritated, no matter if it is caused by allergy or not, it is by instinct that we scratch the itchy skin surface. However, in the case of skin allergy attacks, it is advisable not to scratch as often because it may lead to permanent marks that are quite unpleasant to see.

People can be allergic to various things such as cat and dog hairs, poison ivy, mold, sumac, and oak. These are contact allergens or allergens that come into contact with the skin's surface and causes allergic reactions. It is essential to have the skin tested for allergy to determine which allergen or substance has caused the skin allergy and rash.

The affected area of the skin may also swell, become sore and itchy. But these symptoms can be relieved by various treatments and practices.

  • Anti-allergy creams - These are prescription medications for skin allergy. They do not just alleviate the allergy rash but also relieve the swelling, soreness and itchiness. Usually these medications may contain anti-histamines that prevent recurrence of allergy.
  • Oral medications - Doctors usually prescribe both allergy creams and pills to enhance the effect of the medications. They also alleviate and bring relief to the skin.
  • Warm bath - A warm and relaxing bath can soothe the itchiness of allergy rash. Use only mild soap or a liquid baby bath. Dry your skin by patting your towel to prevent more rashes. If you can use a mild moisturizer, do so to prevent drying of the skin area.
  • Avoid scratching - This may be difficult especially during sleep. Wear long sleeved top or gloves and socks to prevent your nails from touching the allergy rash. Clip your nails short to help prevent scratches that can aggravate the allergy rashes and itchiness.
  • Avoid going out - If you can, stay indoors for the meantime to prevent your allergy rash from being aggravated by the sun's heat, smog, and other pollutants. Make sure that your area is clean and dust-free.
